About us
The Centro Servizi Marmo was founded in 2000 thanks to support of the European Union and the Verona Chamber of Commerce.
The Centro Servizi Marmo is registered with the Verona Chamber of Commerce and operates from Volargne di Dolcé in the Province of Verona in the Italian Region Veneto.
The Centro Servizi Marmo is a co-operative society made up 83% by the Verona Chamber of Commerce, 6% by the Confederations of Small and Medium Businesses (Confindustria and Apindustria) and the remaining 11% by businesses in the field.
The Centro Servizi Marmo is a multi-function, non-profit-making, public and third party[1] institution which provides laboratory tests, information, advice, research, training, promotions for the benefit of those working in the ornamental stone sector.
The Centro provides access to a permanent showroom of around 800 examples of ornamental stone worked and embellished by specialist stone companies (more than 600 specialist firms with a total of 6000 employees) and a temporary showroom which illustrates the most significant designs and specialised products in the sector.
2003 (L.R. 4 April 2003, no.8): the DISTRETTO DEL MARMO E DELLE PIETRE DEL VENETO(a district which operates in the field of marble and stone in the Italian region of Veneto) bears. It has its operational base and its Testing Laboratory at the Centro Servizi Marmo.
2003 (L.R. 4 April 2003, no.8): the President of the Centro Servizi Marmo, Filiberto Semenzin, is nominated as co-ordinator forthe Distretto del Marmo e delle Pietre del Veneto
The “Distretto” has no juridical form but it is composed of the combination (voluntarily and free of charge) of around 150 companies in the sector, in the specific those of Verona’s zones of Valpolicella, Lessinia, Valpantena, and those belonging to the areas of Vicenza and Padua (Chiampo, Asiago, Colli Euganei), Belluno, Treviso and Venice.
Every three years the businesses sign an agreement of development containing the activities and the projects considered strategic for the promotion of the sector (innovations, research, marketing, various promotional activities, administration of manufacture and of the environmental themes linked to the sector).
[1]The society is part of Public Work Department and the transparency of its testing activities is fully guaranteed.
Centro Servizi Marmo:Activities and Services
The Centro Servizi Marmo, as sector’s representative, directs its own programme of activities to the support, the promotion and the development of small and medium enterprises through some initiatives linked to:
q       Promotion (promotional activities in Italy and abroad)
q       Training and seminars
q       Research and innovation
q       Service of organising the development of small and medium enterprises in order to create models of development networks
The theme of promotion, the most important for the sector, is co-ordinated through a plan of action shared between the sector’s Associations and the businessmen in the field.
The Centro Servizi Marmo strives to give voice to all those working with marble, by supporting in Italy and abroad events about living, furnishing and building. All these activities are planned in order to permit to marble workers to advance in the use of their materials not only with those working in the sector, but overall with their final users, architects, designers, contractors, builders, etc.
In 2010, following the directions received from both businesses and Associations with which the centre is in contact to, some missions were established: one of incoming of outside planners and designers (the Qualitaly Missions project of professionals from outside Verona for the “Sistema Casa/ B2B” in Sant’Ambrogio di Valpolicella – October 2010) and the other specifically for Veronese marble workers in emerging markets supposed to be attractive to the businesses of the sector ( Veronese Delegation to Casablanca, October to November 2010, in collaboration with the local ICE –national Institute for the External Commerce- offices).

Centro Servizi Marmo: technical training
Side by side with the commercial promotion activities, professional training is supported and developed through training courses about:

Ø      Update of natural stone laying techniques
Ø      Update of surface treatment for natural stone
Ø      Update of new materials and innovative technology for working, laying and maintenance
Ø      Update of the standardised techniques of the sector

All these activities are planned in collaboration with the associations of the Architects and Engineers of the Province of Verona and of the other most important Italian provinces. Along with these there are seminars and academic teaching held by the staff of the Centro Servizi Marmo in the Italian Universities and Polytechnics.

Since its beginnings the Laboratory has been recognised nationally and internationally in the field of ornamental stone and building materials.
The Laboratory is equipped with state-of-the-art techniques and instruments for analysis and tests meeting the European standards (EN), ASTM and ISO. Moreover, through its own expertise, it has taken an active part in establishing European and national standards for natural stones and stone agglomerates, supervising work on the standardised tables related to aggregates and dangerous substances used in construction products.
The Testing Laboratory provides services on behalf of third parties related to:
Ø       Testing the physical-mechanical properties of ornamental stone (natural stone, resin-based stone agglomerates, cement-based stone agglomerates) and similar (cement, ceramics, etc.)
Ø       Testing for CE standards marking: products of natural stone, resin-based stone agglomerates, cement-based stone agglomerates
Ø       Consultation and both laboratory and on-site testing to check the stability of paving
Ø       Consultation through research activities and tests on innovative products
Ø       Consultation and testing for choice of materials, of design, of the finish, of the techniques of laying, and of the maintenance during the project design phase
Ø       Consultation and both laboratory and on-site testing for the approval and checking of the supply of ornamental stone, for the ornamental stone manufactures and for paving and facings
